The Walt Disney Company has dropped the Fox from its 20th Century and Searchlight logos. Disney acquired 20th Century Fox last March for $71.3 billion. The deal included their film and television studios, but not their broadcast network or Fox News, which both remained under the Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox Corp. Disney appears to have big plans regarding the integration of the 20th Century and its sister studio, Searchlight, as well as for the associated properties....

Disney’s big Christmas release is very different in 2020. It’s become a tradition for Disney to plan a major release around the holiday season, when many people have time off from work and families head to the movies. Over the past few years, this has largely been built around Star Wars, beginning with the success of The Force Awakens when it was released in December 2015, and subsequently seeing Rogue One and The Last Jedi grossing over $1 billion while in the December spot....

Emily Beecham has joined the cast of Disney’s live-action Cruella. The upcoming film is a prequel to 101 Dalmatians that takes place in London in the 1970s. It tells the story of a young Cruella (Emma Stone), back when she was a wannabe fashion designer known as Estella, as she sets out to find a locket her mother left her before she passed away. The film also stars Joel Fry (Yesterday) and Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya) who play her henchman, Jasper and Horace, along with Emma Thompson who plays a wealthy individual known as The Baroness....

Dev Patel will play David Copperfield in a new adaptation co-written and directed by Veep creator Armando Innucci. Based on the Charles Dickens novel, the upcoming adaptation will set the story in modern times. The Dickens novel is so popular that it has been adapted numerous times before, into six live-action films, two animated films, and five miniseries. This newest version is co-written by Simon Blackwell and produced by Iannucci and Kevin Loader....

With the public release of iOS 8 landing today ahead of the new iPhone models shipping on September 19, developers are warning users not to upgrade to Apple’s new iCloud Drive feature just yet. The feature, which allows users to store and access files stored in iCloud on Mac, Windows, and iCloud-enabled iOS apps, is available to users on iOS 8 starting today, but won’t be available for Macs until Yosemite is released later this year....

Discovery is currently working on a revival of their mid-2000 reality series, American Chopper. The series ran for six seasons from 2003 to 2010 and featured father and son Paul Teutul Sr. (also known as Senior) and Paul Teutul Jr. (who goes by Paulie or Junior), respectively as they man the family business of manufacturing chopper-style motorcycles at Orange County Choppers in Newburgh, New York. Of course, American Chopper wouldn’t have lasted as long as it did if it did not have the classic reality trope of extreme family tension, exactly what Senior and Junior had together....

Of course, it’s been known for some time now that Disney’s also planning to launch a new streaming service this fall. The Unabomber was a mysterious domestic terrorist who operated for nearly 20 years, sending crude homemade bombs to various airlines and universities that killed three people and injured more than 20. After getting his sprawling manifesto about the evils of modern technology published in several newspapers, the Unabomber was caught in 1995 and exposed as Theodore “Ted” Kaczynski, a Harvard graduate who later worked as a professor. The Unabomber affair has been largely forgotten in the ensuing two decades with pop culture mostly ignoring it — save for a particularly memorable Saturday Night Live sketch with Will Ferrell as Kaczynski at his Harvard reunion....
