The Disney+ launch slate contains several movies and TV shows, including a handful of but not all Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. For the past 10 years, Marvel Studios have been putting out films almost every year, and more recently, they’ve even ramped up their output to three releases a year. Disney Plus has cancelled its Book of Enchantment series, ahead of the streaming service’s launch on November 12. Developed by Michael Seitzman (Intelligence, Code Black), the show was based on Serena Valentino’s Disney Villain novels and has been in the pipeline for almost a year (though it wasn’t confirmed until last February). Valentino’s books have been going since 2009 and explore the backstories for characters like Maleficent, the Wicked Queen, Ursula, and Mother Gothel, while also recounting parts of their fairy tales from their perspectives....

Talk of a big screen adaptation of Madeleine L’Engle’s classic story A Wrinkle in Time began in 2010, with a script by Bridge to Terabithia scribe Jeff Stockwell being marketed to Disney. Fast forward to 2014, and Disney is pushing forward with Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee as screenwriter instead. The central character in A Wrinkle in Time is the teenage Meg Murry, on a journey with her young brother through time and space to find their missing scientist father....

Apple continues to talk high praise of Apple Music, most recently leaking that the service has 10 million paying subscribers, but it has remained somewhat quiet about its Beats 1 online 24/7 radio station. Beats 1 launched to much fanfare with Zane Lowe leading the effort, and while it seems to be doing decently, it isn’t a sensation in the music business yet. It’s especially timely to talk about Beats 1 now that Apple has retired the iTunes Radio ad-supported stations, leaving Beats 1 as the only way to get free streaming music from Apple....

Digitimes has today released a report that covers a variety of topics, focused on Apple’s September launch schedule. Quoting industry sources, the site says that Apple will launch a $1200 Kaby Lake ‘entry-level’ MacBook in September. They also believe the iPad mini 4 will continue to be sold as-is, and expect Apple to announce the AirPower release date at the 2018 iPhone event, with a price point in the $160-$190 range …...

Disney is banning commercials for Netflix Original movie and TV shows on several of its entertainment networks. As the Mouse House prepares to launch its Disney Plus streaming service in November, it continues to cut ties with its onetime collaborator Netflix. In addition to pulling its movies from the streamer (including, Marvel Studios, Pixar, and Star Wars films), Disney has ended their previous partnership with Netflix on Marvel TV’s The Defenders mini-universe....

Disney announces the cast of Guy Ritchie’s live-action Aladdin includes Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith in lead roles. Walt Disney Pictures has found success in recent years with their live-action adaptations of films from their animated classics vault. With the likes of The Jungle Book, Cinderella, and Beauty and the Beast finding success both with critics and at the box office, Disney has plans to adapt many of their other animated features to live-action, including Mulan, Dumbo, The Lion King, and Aladdin....

A Disney Plus price increase has been announced, up $1 from $6.99/month to $7.99/month. Subscribers do get a little breathing space, as Disney is giving more than three month’s notice of the hike: it will take effect on March 26, 2021 … The Verge notes the increases. It follows Netflix increasing its prices in October and November. Also, the Disney Bundle — that has Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Plus — will see a $1 increase to $13....

Detective Pikachu may not have been able to beat out Avengers: Endgame for the top spot at the box office, but the film is still commercially successful. Since Endgame debuted at the end of April, much has been written about the movie’s unprecedented run, as it absolutely shattered records by posting figures that seemed unfathomable. In only its second week, Endgame passed the $2 billion mark worldwide, and it’s currently gunning for Avatar’s all-time global mark of $2....

The hype leading up to the release of last year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided was big, and most expected the game to follow in the footsteps of previous entry, Deus Ex: Human Revolution in becoming a big hit with both fans and critics. While Deus Ex: Mankind Divided did prove itself among critics, garnering an impressive score of 83 on Metacritic, the game failed to deliver as many sales as the previous entry in the Deus Ex franchise....

Meanwhile, everyone’s favorite Piper Analyst Gene Munster is giving 75% odds on a January announcement and 50% odds on a Tablet. He also lays out the following: If the tablet were announced in January, he would expect it to ship some time in Apple’s second fiscal quarter. “Based on a conversation this week with a Taiwanese component supplier,” he writes, “we expect Apple to ship a tablet device by the end March....

The company’s Q4 Brand Phishing Report for 2021 ranks the top 10 most imitated brands in October, November and December. Researchers at Check Point found DHL’s brand used in 23% of all phishing attacks they saw globally. Microsoft was second at 20%, while WhatsApp came in at 11% and Google appeared in 10%. “This quarter, for the first time, we’ve seen global logistics company DHL top the rankings as the most likely brand to be imitated, presumably to capitalize on the soaring number of new and potentially vulnerable online shoppers during the year’s busiest retail period,” Dembinsky said....
