A fan-made trailer has united the disparate worlds of Deadpool and Detective Pikachu to create a Ryan Reynolds-themed movie mashup. Reynolds is currently still enjoying a surge in popularity triggered by the Deadpool franchise - a part he had publicly courted for some time. Playing the “Merc with a Mouth” known as Wade Wilson, the actor found himself combining superhero action with R-rated comedy in a role he was ideally suited to take and earned a raft of new fans thanks to Deadpool’s crass humor and fourth-wall breaking monologues....

An extended TV spot for Detective Pikachu debuts online. The Pokémon film is generating a lot of positive buzz, and is projected to open higher than Aquaman at the box office. Detective Pikachu is based on the Nintendo 3DS game of the same name. Unlike the main games, Detective Pikachu was not about catching wild Pokémon, or becoming the best trainer in the region. Instead, it was a story-driven title with a focus on solving mysteries....

From 9to5Google: After launching a private beta of its new Google Reader replacement, Digg announced today that it is now rolling out the beta to all users signed up to test the new app. Digg just sent out the first batch of invites to the new web app, but promises it will be “adding users in increasingly larger batches.” The app is still a work in progress and won’t get you every feature you might have had with Google Reader, but for now you can easily import your Google Reader content, use Google Reader-like shortcuts, and save and share to all the usual third-party services....

In October, the “DirecTV” app added the ability to stream video over home networks. Today, an update to the app adds the ability to stream shows and movies over 3G and Wi-Fi anywhere. The new feature is limited to video content, meaning live TV streaming still requires a Wi-Fi connection on your home network. In order to fill up its programming slate, Disney+ is regularly turning towards producing TV shows that serve as prequels to some of Disney’s most successful movies. An alt-right smear campaign has achieved its goal of getting Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn fired over behavior he’d long since apologized for - but it’s not too late for Disney to rehire him. Chip designer Dialog Semiconductor said today that it hit its guidance for Q4, despite the fact that 75% of its income comes from Apple. Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have entered talks to play roles in Disney’s live-action The Little Mermaid. The film is a retelling of the classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, but is specifically based on the studio’s Oscar-winning animated musical adaptation from 1989. Disney’s animated Little Mermaid told the story of Ariel, a mermaid princess who falls in love with a human prince named Eric, and makes a deal with the sea witch Ursula to become a human herself....

Warner Bros. debuted a new TV spot for its upcoming live-action Pokémon movie, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, which reuses footage but does offer a first look at live-action Snubbull. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular Pikachu, who has the ability to talk to his human partner, played by Justice Smith. This new TV spot arrives after the Detective Pikachu trailer debuted late last year. Directed by Rob Letterman, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu also stars Suki Waterhouse, Kathryn Newton, Bill Nighy, Rita Ora, and Karan Soni in pivotal roles....

A Deutsche Bank research note based on supply-chain sources claims that Apple will sell the iPhone 7 with a Lightning-to-audio dongle, rather than providing Lightning headphones, reports Business Insider. It also suggests that the iPhone 7 Plus will have 3GB of RAM. All of the note’s other predictions echo things we’ve heard many times before: similar design to the 6s; dual cameras on the Plus, improved camera on the standard model; better sound, possibly stereo; better waterproofing; and a touch-sensitive Home button....
