Disney’s upcoming re-imagining of The Lion King will not be a shot-for-shot remake of the 1994 animated classic. Disney found great success upon the release of Frozen in 2013, but a crazy theory wonders if the entire movie only exists to hide the truth behind Disney’s founder, Walt Disney. Disenchantment, Matt Groening’s first new television series since Futurama, finds the cartoonist and creator of The Simpsons trafficking his brand of suggestively irreverent, pop culture-laden comedy in decidedly new territory. No, not the magical medieval fantasy world of the show’s setting, but rather the endless streaming landscape of Netflix and its innumerable bingeing options. One of the features that make Netflix the content juggernaut that it is has an interesting effect on Groening’s new series, differentiating Disenchantment from past efforts in with entertaining, but not entirely successful results....

Company CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed what industry analysts have long recognized - that Disney’s purchase of Fox’s assets was about beefing up its Disney + content library, and not making it possible for the X-Men and Fantastic Four to share the screen with the Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney’s Star Wars hotel launches guests into space before they check-in. The legendary franchise’s two theme parks, Galaxy’s Edge, haven’t even been open a year yet, but so far both continue to offer enough Star Wars immersion for fans of all ages. Though the California-based Star Wars attraction was the first of its kind to open in May 2019, at the moment it’s the Florida-based attraction inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios, at the Walt Disney World Resort that is gaining considerable attention....

Update: AAPL shares fell 2% on the report. A report today claims that Apple is cutting its iPhone X production targets in half in response to ‘disappointing holiday season sales.’ Apple is said to have notified suppliers that it has cut its production target for the first quarter of this year to 20M, after previously telling them to expect to produce 40M units … Nikkei carries the report, based on unnamed supply-chain sources....

Was “Marge Be Not Proud” the beginning of the end for The Simpsons? Everybody knows The Simpsons is not what it was. It hasn’t been for almost two decades; we’re much further from The Simpsons Movie than The Simpsons Movie was from good Simpsons. This can be easily seen by firing up any classic, seasons 2-8 episode and comparing it to what’s produced now; season 30’s currently airing and, while it may not be quite as nonsensical as the late teens/early twenties, the bite and verve is so removed they barely qualify as the same show....

There are many Easter eggs hidden in Disenchantment season 2 that pay homage to The Simpsons and Futurama. This is par for the course for series creator Matt Groening, who loves hiding shout-outs and in-jokes in his work - to the point of creating original languages just for the sake of planting coded messages into the backgrounds. The first season of Disenchantment started the tradition, by hiding a number of Easter eggs relating to the earlier animated series throughout its ten episodes....

The finale of Disenchantment season 2 was the culmination of 2 years of careful planning on the part of the series’ writers. While many felt the final episodes were rushed and introduced too many new elements at the last moment, virtually every development was foreshadowed at some earlier point. Disney reported its fiscal Q2 2022 results on Wednesday with some pretty positive numbers. And when it comes to the Disney+ streaming platform, it beat subscriber expectations for the quarter. This comes as Netflix has been losing users and reconsidering its business model. As reported by CNBC, Disney+ closed the quarter with 137.7 million subscribers, while industry analysts expected about 135 million subscribers. In the second quarter alone, the platform gained 7....

UPDATE: John Lasseter will leave Disney at the end of 2018. It’s believed Disney CEO Bob Iger is preparing to move on from Pixar Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter as the filmmaker nears the end of his six-month leave of absence. Last fall, Lasseter was one of many Hollywood figures accused of sexual misconduct, and the filmmaker acknowledged “missteps” he made in a memo announcing his sabbatical. Among the allegations, it was reported Lasseter was notorious for kissing, grabbing, and making inappropriate comments about women, which caused many employees to feel uncomfortable....

Detective Pikachu may not top Avengers: Endgame at the box office this weekend. Since opening at the end of April, Marvel’s latest blockbuster has dominated the marketplace, already crossing the $2 billion mark worldwide. It was always expected Endgame would do very well commercially, but nobody could have predicted the record-shattering numbers it actually posted.
