Disney’s live-action adaptation of Peter Pan titled Peter Pan and Wendy has offered the role of Tinker Bell to Margot Robbie. Peter Pan and Wendy is one of the most recently announced films to join Disney’s lengthy list of live-action films. Lilo and Stitch, Pinocchio, Bambi and The Little Mermaid are also on the horizon. While these live-action remakes have been a mixture of hits and misses, it doesn’t look like Disney plans on stopping each of their classics is remade. The next live-action film that die-hard Disney fans can look forward to is Mulan, set to hit theaters in March.

In recent years, Robbie has taken Hollywood by storm. The Australian actress’s ability to play neurotic characters with a grounded approach has scored her many roles including Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Tonya Harding in I, Tonya and Naomi Lapaglia in Wolf of Wall Street. Robbie has acquired plenty of work as the face of DC’s Harley Quinn. She is starring in the upcoming Birds of Prey film in theaters Feb. 7 and is set to appear in another Suicide Squad film. Robbie will have to whip out the femininity that landed her Kayla Popisil in Bombshell, Flopsy in Peter Rabbit and Barbie in the upcoming Barbie film along with her rambunctious side in order to rock Tinker Bell’s pixie dust.

The Illuminerdi reported that while Robbie has been extended an offer for Tinker Bell from Disney, she has yet to accept the role. The character breakdown describes the live-action film’s version of Tinker Bell as Peter Pan’s partner in crime and voice of reason. She is the one to swoop in and save the day when the Lost Boys are hopelessly lost. Hopefully this Tinker Bell will still have some of the mischievousness and spunk that she had in the classic Peter Pan. It is unknown whether the Tinker Bell live-action origin story in the works starring Reese Witherspoon influenced this iteration of the pixie.

Peter Pan and Wendy is set to film in Vancouver from April to August. Unlike Lion King, Mulan and Aladdin, Peter Pan and Wendy is set to be released exclusively on Disney+ just like the live-action Lady and the Tramp. The film has been given an updated title and new character breakdowns, which insinuates the remake will take on the classic with a new perspective. Including Wendy in the title might lend to a more inclusive narrative and empower her character.

For some, these Disney classic live-action movies seem redundant. Disney has found success in their live-action updates and continues to put a number into development, including Peter Pan and Wendy. After the success of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast, Disney seemingly realized they could reimagine these properties in live-action to appeal to new generations of fans. However, some have criticized Disney for what they call a lack of originality in these remakes.

On the other hand, the films are a great excuse for die-hard Disney fans to go on a nostalgia trip. Parents are able to take their children to have the same experience of watching a Disney film in theaters they had has children. Still, the only way Disney can show some innovation in these remakes is by updating some of the more outdated aspects of these Disney classics. If Peter Pan and Wendy remake intends to do this, it will be worth watching when it comes to Disney+.
