The Disney+ launch slate contains several movies and TV shows, including a handful of but not all Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. For the past 10 years, Marvel Studios have been putting out films almost every year, and more recently, they’ve even ramped up their output to three releases a year.
Last Updated: November 6, 2019
So far, they’ve managed to add 23 movies to their catalog (collectively known as The Infinity Saga), the latest one being Spider-Man: Far From Home. It’ll take several more months before another movie from the universe is released, with Black Widow not scheduled to arrive until May 2020. This is why many are looking forward to the arrival of Disney+, hoping they can rewatch their favorite MCU installments while waiting for the next one.
Unfortunately, there are only a select number of MCU films set to be available on the upcoming streaming platform at launch. Meanwhile, no official date has been confirmed as to when most of the remaining movies in their catalog will be added to the service.
MCU Films Available On Disney+ At Launch
Disney+ has only 16 out of the 23 MCU movies readily available for streaming at launch. There seems to be no rhyme or reason for this particular selection, since it’s a mix of films from all of its three phases. Interestingly, however, the list includes the first movie from the universe, Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and the latest origin movie from it - Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson in the titular role. Avengers: Endgame, the MCU’s biggest blockbuster to date, will also be a part of the launch line-up.
- Iron Man Iron Man 2 Thor Captain America: The First Avenger The Avengers Iron Man 3 Thor: The Dark World Captain America: The Winter Soldier Guardians of the Galaxy Avengers: Age of Ultron Ant-Man Captain America: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Captain Marvel Avengers: Endgame
MCU Films Not Available On Disney+ At Launch
With only 16 MCU films available on Disney+ at launch, there are 7 other movies from their library that are waiting to be added to the streaming platform. Thankfully, reports suggest that Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War and Ant-Man and the Wasp will eventually arrive during the first year of Disney+. However, subscribers shouldn’t expect to see either Spider-Man movie on the service, since those are products of Sony Pictures, not Disney. The Incredible Hulk may also not release on Disney+, due to it being a Universal Pictures film.
- The Incredible Hulk Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor: Ragnarok Black Panther Avengers: Infinity War Ant-Man and the Wasp Spider-Man: Far From Home
Only having a partial selection of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies to stream on Disney+ at launch is understandably disappointing for fans. That’s much more so considering that Marvel Studios’ own small screen projects for the platform won’t arrive until fall of next year with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. At least potential subscribers will be happy to know that most Star Wars content (except for Star Wars: The Last Jedi) will be immediately available to them.
