Disable Animated GIFs Firefox
Type: about:config in the address bar and hit Enter. If the “This might void your warranty message comes up, click that you’ll be careful.
Next type: anim in the search box to find image.animation_mode. Double-click on image.animation_mode and type in none and click OK. Or, type one if you want the GIFs to play them once).
Disable Animated GIFs Google Chrome
Chrome is a bit different, so your best results are to use an extension. There are plenty to choose from, and each one varies a bit. Here are a few different ones you can choose from:
Animation Policy: This will run animations only once or disable them altogether. Although Video is not impacted, it will work on all image format types.Stop Animations: This Chrome extension allows you to enable or disable GIF animations. Nice when you want to focus and not be distracted.Gif Blocker: Block GIF and WebP animation on web pages.Gif Delayed: Won’t block a GIF however, it will delay it until it’s been fully loaded/downloaded.
Note: Since a lot of GIFs are Flash-based, you can also stop them by disabling Adobe Flash completely by using guides:

Just remember if you use the options above, it will turn off Flash completely. So, videos and other Flash items won’t play. Which, honestly, isn’t a bad thing due to the fact that Flash is extremely insecure. Do you have a favorite way to stop annoying auto-playing GIFs for your browser? Having several tabs open, each with multiple flash ads running, slows down my browser and freezes my scroll bar and cursor. Thank you! You can turn it back on, just reverse the steps in Firefox or use one of the extensions for Chrome, you can control them as described in the article. Maybe Animation Policy? There are a bunch of these types of extensions in the Chrome store. Is there a way to preemptively turn off flash ads? I adore YouTube but I really dislike them on other websites. Anything that I can do to eliminate this horrible intrusion to my browsing experience would be appreciated. Gif Jam (Animation Stopper) should do it because it completely removes the GIFs Thanks!
