DirecTV announced a partnership with Fox Networks today that will see its subscribers gain access to content in Fox Now, FXNow, and Nat Geo TV apps on both Apple TV and iOS in addition to other platforms.
Fox Now and FXNow both have iOS apps and Apple TV apps, while Nat Geo TV is available only on iPhone and iPad. Apple added Fox Now to the Apple TV during the summer, while FXNow became available on the platform in September for select cable subscribers. The apps offer on-demand video streaming content from the Fox, FX, FXX, and FXM networks.
Both apps require users to authenticate their cable provider account to access content, and now DirecTV will be supported. The apps currently support around 25 providers in total between them including Xfinity, DirecTV, Time Warner Cable, AT&T U-Verse, Verizon FiOS, Optimum, Cox, Charter, Suddenlink, Mediacom, WOW!
With the addition of DIRECTV, FOX NOW, FXNOW and Nat Geo TV offer a true TV Everywhere experience to the overwhelming majority of US pay-TV customers. In addition to traditional On Demand via the set top box, full episodes of FOX, FX, FXX, National Geographic Channel, and Nat Geo WILD series are now available to more than 80% of U.S. pay-TV customers via the web and apps on the latest iOS, Android and Windows mobile devices.
DirecTV is also offering Fox Network streaming channels through its Everywhere platform and plans on offering on-demand Fox content through the service early next year.
The Fox Now, FXNow and Nat Geo TV apps are available on the App Store for iOS devices. Fox Now and FX Now are available on Apple TV.
