At a panel following the reveal, Diablo 4 Game Director Luis Barriga confirmed that the game does not yet have a release date. More newsworthy is that Diablo 4 might not get a release date for some time.
Teasing what could be much larger future reveals, Barriga hinted that the Blizzcon 2019 footage shows very early days for Diablo 4.
Considering it has already been more than seven years since the release of Diablo 3, some fans are hoping it won’t be another decade before the release of Diablo 4, even if the third installment has received updates and an expansion in that time.
Though Diablo 2 launched roughly four years after the first title in the series, it took Blizzard 12 more years to release Diablo 3. And if that’s “Blizzard soon,” it’s anyone’s guess what lies beyond that timeline.
While we don’t when Diablo 4 will release, we do know some other things about the game. D4 will bring back customization via talent trees, skill points, and rune words, something fans of the series have hoped would make a return. And, to the chagrin of some, the grim RPG will require an always-online connection to play.
